Tengrinews.kz - The construction site of the NPP (nuclear power plant) has been officially approved in Kazakhstan. The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
The resolution "On the construction area of the nuclear installation Nuclear Power Plant" was adopted on December 30, 2024.
"To make a decision on the construction area of the nuclear installation ‘Nuclear Power Plant’ - Zhambyl district of Almaty region," the document says.
The resolution comes into force on February 25.
Earlier, the Prime Minister gave instructions in connection with the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
In addition, previously Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government to collaborate with "Samruk-Kazyna" to develop long-term plans for the development of the nuclear industry, stressing the need for a clear vision and comprehensive analysis in choosing the most suitable locations for future nuclear power plants and ensuring the use of modern and safe technologies. The President also noted that he expects proposals from the government and Parliament regarding the location for the construction of the second nuclear power plant.
