Tengrinews.kz – Construction of a light rail transit (LRT) depot has begun in Astana, according to City Transportation System (CTS).
As reported by CTS, with the beginning of the winter period, the LRT project enters the stage of construction of a key infrastructure facility - a depot, which will be located on the territory in the area of the international airport.
"The depot will become an important center for servicing and managing the LRT system. The total area of the depot buildings will be about 80 thousand square meters, where all the necessary facilities for full-fledged technical maintenance and repair of rolling stock will be located. The complex includes a building for washing cars, warehouses for spare parts and equipment, specialized equipment for maintaining and repairing tracks, as well as administrative premises for training and improving the qualifications of personnel," the press service of the CTS company reported.
According to official data, a Control Center for Unmanned Trains will be created on the depot territory. The innovative automated control system will significantly improve the safety and efficiency of light rail transit (LRT), automating such processes as starting, braking and stopping at stations, and minimizing the influence of the human factor.
"Due to the completion of the main construction work on the overpass in accordance with the construction technology, the LRT project work in the winter will be concentrated on the construction of the depot," CTS reported.
LRT in Astana is a major public transport project. The LRT system is a high-speed rail transport that will connect several areas of the capital, including the airport, the new railway station, business centers and residential areas.
According to City Transportation Systems, the total cost of the project is $1 billion 888 million.
Earlier, CTS has announced the completion of the cable-stayed LRT (light rail transit) bridge over the Esil River.
