According to the city's akimat press service, a recent data analysis revealed that the primary demographic of foreign tourists arriving in the southern capital is men aged 26-35, traveling either with friends or alone. These foreign tourists prefer cultural events and ecotourism, with 42 percent choosing hotels for their stay. On average, they spend about 5 days in Almaty, spending around $334 per day (approximately 160,000 tenge).
"In contrast, domestic tourists, mainly young men aged 18-25, often visit relatives and prefer hostels. Their average daily spending is $38, with a typical stay of 2 days. The expenses of foreign tourists exceed those of domestic tourists by 8.7 times," the report stated.
It was noted that in the first half of 2024, the number of foreign tourists visiting Almaty increased by 15.6 percent compared to the previous year, totaling 302,358 people, which accounts for 53.3 percent of the overall tourist flow in Kazakhstan.
"The tourism sector in Almaty continues to show steady growth. In the first half of 2024, the number of visitors to Almaty increased by 10.1 percent, reaching 1,070,358 people. Tax revenues from the tourism sector in Almaty for the first eight months of 2024 amounted to 62.5 billion tenge, marking a 39.5 percent increase compared to last year. Investments in fixed capital rose by 72.3 percent. The volume of services provided in accommodation facilities increased by 32.5 percent, confirming the heightened interest of tourists in Almaty," the press service shared.
