Tengrinews.kz – Businessman Sergey Kamaev, convicted in a fatal multi-vehicle accident case, has been released.
In August of this year, a Karaganda entrepreneur was found guilty of causing a major traffic accident and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in a minimum-security colony.
According to the press service of the Committee for the Penitentiary System (KUIS), Sergey Kamaev was released after fully serving the sentence imposed by the court. His sentence was 2 years and 6 months; the verdict was issued on August 20, 2025. He had been under arrest since September 2, 2024, and his time in pre-trial detention was counted as one day for every two served. Taking this into account, Kamaev has now been released, having completed his sentence.
“The calculation of the sentence term was carried out in accordance with Article 62 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan - the time spent in custody before the verdict enters into force is counted as one day for two days of serving the sentence in a minimum-security institution. We also report that the additional punishment - a driving ban - will be served at the convict’s place of residence under the supervision of the probation service,” the KUIS press service said.
Recall that the fatal traffic accident involving six vehicles occurred on September 2 on the busy Amanzholov Street. According to the press service of the Police Department of the Karaganda region, Lexus driver Sergey Kamaev violated the speed limit and crashed into several vehicles on the road. As a result of the mass collision, the driver of the regional agriculture department was killed. Among the injured passengers of one of the cars was a pregnant woman, who was hospitalized with various injuries.
