Tengrinews.kz – The court has ruled on the amnesty request of Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, the brother of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, convicted in the case of the murder of Saltanat Nukenova.
The Stepnogorsk City Court reviewed the petition from the penitentiary institution to reduce Baizhanov’s sentence under the Law “On Amnesty in Connection with the 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
“The court established that on May 13, 2024, B. was sentenced to four years in prison under Article 432 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. The petition for sentence reduction was granted, as the law allows reducing sentences for serious crimes by one-third. This is provided by the Law ‘On Amnesty in Connection with the 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan,’ provided that damages have been compensated or are absent,” the court’s statement reads.
It was reported that Baizhanov had fully paid the fine and procedural costs assigned by the court.
By court ruling, the petition from the penitentiary institution to reduce Baizhanov’s sentence was granted. Under the Amnesty Law, his remaining sentence was reduced by one-third, leaving him with 1 year, 4 months, and 17 days to serve.
Initially, Baizhanov’s release was expected on July 18, 2027. However, after the court’s decision, the new approximate release date is December 2026.
The court ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
