Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh citizens who actively assist in preventing offenses may soon receive official recognition, gifts, monetary rewards, and even honorary titles under a new bill on crime prevention presented in the Mazhilis.

The draft law, titled “On the Prevention of Offenses,” was introduced by Deputy Interior Minister Igor Lepekha. According to him, the bill revises the approach to involving the public in crime prevention and outlines updated incentives for their participation.

Currently, only internal affairs bodies can recruit public assistants to help maintain public order. The new legislation would extend this authority to all law enforcement agencies.

“The role of public assistants is also expanding. The most active will be rewarded — with letters of appreciation, gifts, state awards, honorary titles, and monetary compensation,” Lepekha explained during the presentation.

Local commissions under akimats (local government administrations) will determine the procedures and conditions for granting such incentives.
