Tengrinews.kz - A skier was killed in an avalanche in the Almaty mountains.
On March 17, the 112 Almaty Emergency Situations Department received a message from the dispatcher of the Shymbulak ski resort about an avalanche in the area of Komsomol Peak, located one kilometer from the resort.
According to updated information, this happened on the Left Talgar pass in the area of Lake Nunatak. Three skiers were skiing in a prohibited area. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the deceased was a 34-year-old Russian citizen.
"Three freeriders cut the slope while skiing, causing a snow slide. As a result, all three ended up under the rubble. Two of the victims were able to get out on their own, and the third person, who had no signs of life, was pulled out from under the snow by Shymbulak rescuers. The identities of the victims are being established," the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations reported.
Later, the Department of Emergency Situations added that the volume of the snow avalanche was about 50 cubic meters. A woman's body was pulled out from under the rubble. She was transported to the Kombi-2 station for evacuation.
The Department of Emergency Situations had previously warned citizens about the threat of avalanches based on a storm warning issued by the Kazhydromet State Enterprise. The information was disseminated via SMS and the media.
Earlier, skiers triggered an avalanche at Shymbulak. According to officials, three skiers ignored safety warnings, crossed protective barriers, and ventured into a hazardous area, causing a mass of snow to slide.
