The 24th plenary session of the Foreign Investors’ Council (FIC) has been opened today at Nazarbayev University in Astana. The session focused on modernization of Kazakhstan’s enterprises was opened by President Nazarbayev. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Trade Asset Issekeshev and President of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Thomas Mirow will be the key speakers. Heads of Asian Development Bank, ENRC, ArcelorMittal and Royal Dutch Shell are also expected to speak. President Nazarbayev has announced some changes in the compound of the FIC. Finmeccanica Chairman Pier Francesco Guarguaglini (Italy), Frans Muller, CEO of METRO Cash & Carry Asia & New Markets (Germany), Head of European Investment Banking JPMorgan Chase & Co Klaus Diederichs have become the new members. Besides, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Erzhan Kazykhanov and Chairman of the Committee on Investments under the Ministry of Industry and New technology Asylkhan Serikov have also been introduced into the Council. Besides, observer status has been assigned to Sberbank Chief Executive German Gref. The FIC is an advisory body established to promote direct dialogue between the Government of Kazakhstan and foreign investors to efficiently address issues related to investment activities and to improve the business climate of Kazakhstan. FIC comprises 29 foreign companies and international organizations. Almaty hosted the 23th sitting on qualified labor resources in 2010.
