An earthquake struck 253 kilometers from Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh seismologists have recorded an earthquake 253 kilometers from Almaty.

The tremors were registered by the seismic stations network of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan on Friday, May 16, at 05:12 a.m. Astana time.

"The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Kyrgyzstan, 253 kilometers southeast of Almaty," the center said in a statement.

It was noted that the earthquake was not felt in Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), a magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred in East Kazakhstan on May 6 at 05:12 a.m. local time, at a depth of 1 kilometer. Its epicenter was located 164 kilometers from the city of Aksu (China) and 70 kilometers from the village of Kegen in the Almaty region.

Earlier, on the morning of May 12, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Kyrgyzstan.
