Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Almaty raised concerns about the presence of numerous bars and what she described as a "questionable crowd" in nightlife venues during a meeting with the city's akim (governor), Erbolat Dossaev, in the Medeu District.

"There are 20 bars. It's become unbearable. Now we have gay men running around in short skirts and tights out on the streets on Fridays and Saturdays. What is this? We call the police, but they don’t come. Rarely do they respond. And our children, our grandchildren, see all of this," the woman complained.

The akim appeared surprised by the statement, turning to the Medeu District akim and repeatedly asking, "What?"

In response, the Medeu District Police Department stated that law enforcement officers conduct patrols and issue citations from Thursday through Sunday night.

Dossaev acknowledged the police’s experience in managing the nightlife area along Nazarbayev Avenue and suggested applying similar measures in the Medeu District.

Earlier, it was reported that in 2025, Kazakhstan plans to conduct a research study on the impact of the LGBT movement on minors.
