Tengrinews.kz — Almaty International Airport was flooded as a result of heavy rain that hit the city on Sunday, May 3.
Videos have appeared online showing airport staff in Almaty working en masse to deal with flooding in the security screening and passport control areas. According to eyewitnesses, water leaked from the roof directly into the building.
One Telegram channel also posted photos of flooded access roads, showing a car driving through the water.
The airport’s press service commented on the situation.
“As a result of heavy precipitation, roof leaks occurred in certain areas of terminals T1 and T2. The consequences were promptly eliminated within 30 minutes and did not affect flight operations,” the statement said.
The press service added that the airport is currently operating as usual. An inspection of the infrastructure is underway to determine the causes and prevent similar situations in the future.
