Disaster preparedness kit
A representative of Red Crescent Society advised Almaty residents to pack up disaster preparedness kits on their own instead of buying them, Tengrinews.kz reports. Answering the journalists' question on where the preparedness kit may be bought, the speaker said that it is better to choose vital items for emergency package individually. He noted that all the people have their own individual needs. He gave an example that he personally needs glasses and bronchial asthma medicine to be in the package. The companies offering standard ready-to-go disaster kits can not foresee such details. A representative of Red Crescent Society said that the content of first aid backpacks depends on who the kit is for, a child or an adult, as well as on the season. Cost of the kit should not exceed two thousand tenge ($15). “These reserves should be enough for three days,” he said. President of Red Crescent Society Yerkebek Argymbayev said that the organization is planning to consult Kazakhstan citizens on what to do before, during and after a devastating earthquake. Volunteers will be involved in the awareness campaign. Earlier Tengrinews English reported that Almaty entrepreneurs are planning to start selling first aid backpacks which may save lives in case of a strong earthquake.
