Tengrinews.kz - Mazhilis Deputy Samat Nurtaza has shared a look inside the new light rail transit (LRT) train cars in Astana.
Nurtaza gave a video tour of the new LRT trains on TikTok and also described them in more detail on Facebook.
“This morning, we visited the LRT project office, which has practically become a symbol of Astana. The LRT leadership hosted a group of deputies there, including Duysenbai Turganov, Pavel Kazantsev, Marat Bashimov, Tatiana Savelyeva, and Snezhanna Imasheva, and reported on the project’s progress,” he wrote on his page.
In the video, Nurtaza pointed out that the seats in the train cars have anti-vandal upholstery.
The train interiors feature a national style, with Kazakh ornaments and calming, warm colors used on the walls and seating.

According to the deputy, the LRT project in Astana is valued at $1.88 billion. A total of 18 stations are planned, with distances between them ranging from 400 meters to 2 kilometers. Stations will have escalators and elevators.
Train intervals will be 2–4 minutes, Nurtaza noted.
“Trains will run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Initially, they were expected to operate around the clock, but residents living along the line opposed 24-hour service, so the schedule will be limited,” he added.
The fare is tentatively estimated at 200 tenge, but a final decision on the tariff has yet to be made.
“The quality of the cars is good. The seats are not made of hard plastic but of a softer material. Most of the construction workers are Chinese — their engineers are carefully measuring and testing everything: how the system will work in winter, whether doors will freeze, whether rails will warp from heat, or if the plastic might break in an emergency. Only after that will the Chinese side provide a warranty on the LRT project in Kazakhstan,” the deputy wrote.
Each train will have an onboard attendant. They will not drive the train but will serve as security, an assistant, and a fare inspector.
Additionally, the LRT support columns will be rented out for advertising, with those funds going toward maintaining the rail infrastructure.
As a reminder, the first LRT train cars were placed on the tracks in Astana on June 11.
