Tengrinews.kz - On October 25, Kazakhstan celebrates the national holiday - Republic Day. Experts shared their views on the significance of this date with Tengrinews.kz.

It is worth recalling that the holiday was canceled in 2009, but Republic Day was restored in 2022, reinstating its status as a national holiday.

"Republic Day, reinstated by President Tokayev in 2022, symbolizes the unification of the nation around the idea of sovereignty. Unlike Independence Day, which is associated with the tragic events of December 1986, October 25 is a bright symbol of the first peaceful step toward independence," said political scientist Adil Seifullin.

According to the political scientist, the December events that preceded the establishment of Independence Day make that date one of mourning and remembrance, while Republic Day stands in stark contrast to this.

"The adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty in 1990 marked the beginning of Kazakhstan's peaceful path to independence. This day symbolizes the aspiration for freedom and the unity of the people, carrying a positive message of cohesion and a common future. Republic Day is a symbol of creation and peace, uniting the nation," said the expert.

Political scientist Seifullin believes that the holiday's reinstatement by President Tokayev not only restores historical justice but also strengthens the country's sovereignty. According to him, in the current context of unstable geopolitics, Tokayev emphasizes Kazakhstan's independence, relying on the principles of peace and creation.

In conclusion, Seifullin emphasized that Republic Day is not just a historical date. This day symbolizes Kazakhstan's peaceful path to sovereignty, becoming a unifying celebration that reinforces the national identity and independence of the country.

According to Azamat Baigaliyev, the director of the Institute of Eurasian Integration, the reinstatement of Republic Day as a national holiday is a restoration of historical justice.

"Two years ago, President Tokayev's decision received widespread public support and expert approval. Historians and political scientists emphasized that this date had been unjustly overshadowed in the history of independent Kazakhstan. Clearly, the opinions of specialists were heard, as this day holds immense significance for our statehood," noted Baigaliyev.

The political scientist emphasizes that the return of Republic Day to Kazakhstan's history is important for generations that were at the roots of sovereignty. This is a sacred date that symbolizes not only the proclamation of sovereignty but also the values of modern democratic governance. He points out that the renewed holiday conveys three key messages: sovereignty, the values of the republic, and the restoration of historical justice.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in a flag-raising ceremony dedicated to Republic Day.
