Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting in Saint Petersburg with the President of the Russian Federation, citing Akorda.
During the conversation, the President of Kazakhstan noted that the program of the traditional St. Petersburg meetings ahead of the New Year was thoroughly planned and intensive.
“We managed to consider a number of issues and adopt decisions within the framework of the EAEU. Important and relevant issues of our cooperation were also discussed in the CIS format. The CIS is an authoritative and in-demand international organization. As for bilateral cooperation, this year has undoubtedly been successful. One can say that bilateral relations have been developing on an upward trajectory. My state visit to Russia on November 12 was crowned with complete success. I am grateful to you for the warm reception during this visit. As far as Kazakhstan is concerned, cooperation within the framework of strategic partnership and alliance is an unconditional priority. We must stand together on all issues that concern the everyday lives of the citizens of both Kazakhstan and Russia, since this cooperation and our work aimed at developing strategic partnership fully correspond to the fundamental interests of our peoples,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

“We have worked together since yesterday, and today we had half a day to discuss our work within the CSTO, the CIS, as well as bilateral issues in an informal setting. I am very pleased with the opportunity to meet with you separately and discuss the issues that both you and I consider priorities for the development of bilateral ties between Kazakhstan and Russia. Overall, in my view, the situation is developing positively in virtually all areas. We do not have a single disputed or complicated issue,” the President of Russia said.
It should be noted that on December 22, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in an informal meeting of CIS heads of state held in Saint Petersburg. The leaders discussed key vectors of development and outlined further steps to strengthen practical cooperation, as well as exchanged views on pressing issues of interaction within the CIS.
Recall that on December 21, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Saint Petersburg to participate in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and an informal meeting of CIS heads of state.
The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is the highest body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). It defines the strategy, directions, and prospects for integration within the EAEU and adopts key decisions binding on all member states (for example, on the budget, new members, or observers).
