Tengrinews.kz – A system malfunction at Almaty International Airport led to flight delays on the morning of May 5.

Passengers reported disruptions in the domestic flights area. According to eyewitnesses, the issue caused a temporary standstill in passenger flow.

Later, the airport's press service confirmed that a brief technical failure occurred in the access control system at the domestic arrivals area, resulting in a temporary mixing of passenger streams.

“In accordance with established security protocols, an additional screening of passengers was conducted. The process was handled promptly and had no significant impact on the overall schedule. The average delay did not exceed 25 minutes,” the airport said in a statement.

The airport apologized for any inconvenience and confirmed that operations have since returned to normal.

Earlier, Almaty Airport had informed passengers that, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense, airspace over Astana would be closed daily from 10:00 to 13:00 between April 22 and May 7 for military parade preparations. This has caused changes to some flight schedules to and from Astana, including flights from Almaty.
