Tengrinews.kz – The national command and staff exercise "Zher-2025" will take place in Kazakhstan, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The event will be held from July 23 to 24, 2025, in seismically hazardous regions of the country — namely the cities of Almaty, Shymkent, and the Abai, Zhetysu, Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions.
The national coordination headquarters for the exercise is located in Shymkent.
In these regions, residents will hear sirens, and earthquake drills will be conducted at public facilities with large gatherings of people.
“The exercise is being conducted to enhance the preparedness level of the national civil protection system for responding to a large-scale emergency caused by a devastating earthquake. The event will involve national and regional civil protection services as well as local executive bodies, who will practice response actions under conditions of a destructive earthquake,” the Ministry stated.
During the exercise, demonstrations will include emergency rescue operations, reception centers for affected populations, a tent camp, and four field medical hospitals equipped to receive and assist injured residents.
