Tengrinews.kz – The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan has warned iPhone owners about a threat of online fraud, the agency’s press service reports.
According to foreign sources, scammers are sending fake SMS messages or iMessages on behalf of Apple with an attached phishing link, specifying the model, color, and storage capacity of an allegedly found iPhone, thereby creating the illusion that the notification is genuine.
By following the attached link, the user is taken to a fake page visually identical to the Apple Find My service, which sends the Apple ID login and password to the scammers.
This allows the criminals to bypass iPhone activation lock and gain access to the device and personal information.
The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that “this type of threat is beginning to spread actively.” In this regard, the agency strongly recommends:
- not clicking on links that seem suspicious;
- using a separate email address if you want to display contact information on the lock screen of a lost device;
- protecting the SIM card with a PIN code to make access more difficult;
- checking your device only through icloud.com/find.
Stay vigilant and follow cybersecurity practices, the agency advised.
