Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstanis have been warned about possible floods that may occur in the spring of 2026.
According to Marina Schmidt, director of the Kazhydromet weather center, flooding is possible due to heavy precipitation expected this coming winter.
“We especially draw your attention to the fact that, due to heavy snowfall and frequent alternation of thaws and returning cold spells, an ice crust will form in the snow cover and in the soil, which may negatively affect the flood period of 2026,” Marina Schmidt said at a briefing.
The Kazhydromet representative added that winter precipitation and temperature fluctuations may “negatively affect flood conditions.” This is especially relevant for Central and Northern Kazakhstan, as well as the eastern part of the country.
“It will become clearer on February 1, when our hydrologists publish a preliminary forecast for the flood season. On March 1, the main forecast will be released, and later it will be updated with weekly forecasts,” the director of the weather center added.
Earlier, meteorologists published an advisory weather forecast for December in Kazakhstan. It is expected that the last month of the year will generally be warmer than the climatic norm.
