Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan has commenced official negotiations with shortlisted potential suppliers of nuclear power plant technology, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.

According to the ministry, discussions are proceeding under a competitive dialogue framework, designed to address all aspects of collaboration - covering technical, economic, and legal considerations.

“This format aligns with international standards and will enable the selection of an optimal solution that best serves Kazakhstan’s national interests. A final decision on the supplier or consortium for the nuclear plant project is expected by 2025,” the ministry’s statement read.

The nuclear plant project received strong public support in a recent referendum held on October 6, where 71.12% of voters approved the construction.

Citizens were asked to respond to the question, “Do you agree with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?” with a simple “Yes, agree” or “No, disagree.”
