Tengrinews.kz - An earthquake occurred in the Almaty region near the village of Kegen and the border with Kyrgyzstan, according to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of the Sciences Kyrgyz Republic website.

The tremor was registered at 8:19 a.m. Almaty time on May 1, with a magnitude of 3.7 and an intensity of 3.5.

“The epicenter was located on the territory of Kazakhstan, 25 kilometers northeast of the village of Karkyra and 95 kilometers northeast of the city of Karakol. The quake was not felt in settlements on the Kyrgyz side,” the statement said.

According to Kazakhstan’s National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the epicenter was in Kegen district, 10 kilometers from the village of Karkyra and about 201 kilometers southeast of Almaty.

“The calculated intensity at the epicenter was non-perceptible,” the center reported.

Earlier, on April 30, sirens sounded across Almaty at 11:00 a.m. as part of a scheduled citywide earthquake drill.
