According to the press service of the akimat (local government administration), about 300 bright structures in the form of fairy-tale characters and holiday attributes will appear on the territory of the metropolis, including 120 of last year's updated small architectural forms.
12 streets and avenues will be decorated with 1,500 light elements, of which 350 are restored brackets used in 2023. In addition, the facades of 21 iconic buildings will be illuminated with architectural lighting. The Kok Tobe TV tower will be decorated in a New Year's style, it will delight residents and guests with a festive multimedia video series.
Where will the main New Year tree of Almaty be located?
According to tradition, it will be installed on Abai Square, in front of the Palace of the Republic. Bright decorative elements, Christmas tree balls, large bows, 6 kilometers of garlands, as well as New Year's toys, made, among other things, from recycled environmentally friendly materials, will be used for its decoration. Its height will be 22 meters.
The lighting of the main tree will take place on December 20 at 7 PM. In honor of the celebration, pop stars will perform in front of the Palace of the Republic: Turar, Dakelot, Adill, Madi Rymbaev, Dinaya, the Astro group, Malika Yes, Balzhan Bidash, the ALPHA group, as well as the main heroes of the holiday: Ayaz Ata and Akshakar (Santa Claus and Snow Maiden - ed.).
In addition, the main New Year's fair will be open on Abai Square from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025, where artisan products, souvenirs, and New Year's toys will be presented.
80 Christmas trees will be installed in Almaty
Each of them will be decorated with 4 to 6 kilometers of garlands. The trees will appear in key locations of the city: on the territory of the First President Park, Republic Square, near the ice palace "Halyk Arena," the multifunctional complex "Almaty Arena," the State Academic Russian Theater for Children and Youth named after Sats, the amphitheater of the Nauryzbai district, KazNTOB (Abay Kazakh National Theatre of Opera and Ballet), the Almaty Circus, in front of shopping centers, in squares, parks and other favorite places of the city residents.
Also, a 22-meter-high Christmas tree and a yurt of the main New Year's hero - Ayaz Ata will be installed in Astana Square. Everyone will be able to visit the miracle house, decorated in the national style. A fair will also be held here from December 20, and master classes and games will be organized.
Traditionally, the main New Year's concert with the participation of pop stars will take place in front of KBTU on December 31 at 9 PM.
In addition, Almaty Arbat will be decorated in the style of Carnaby Street in London. Light tunnels and compositions of stars and balls will appear in the pedestrian zone. A Christmas tree fair will be held here every day from December 20 to 31: from classic green trees to decorative mini-trees. Performances by famous performers and young musicians, an exhibition of artists, as well as games for the whole family are planned here.
In addition to New Year's performances, each of the 8 districts of the city will host a parade of Ayaz Ata and fairy-tale characters, fairs and exhibitions, concerts, and games.
"The budget for New Year's decoration of Almaty this year will be about 800 million tenge. However, due to the maximum use of last year's restored installations, as well as the participation of city cultural institutions in holding events, the celebration this year will be larger in scale compared to last year," the Local Government Administration specified.
