Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Emergency Situations has issued an appeal to Kazakhstani parents due to a rise in child falls from windows.
According to the Ministry, the number of such incidents increases every year with warmer weather and the start of summer holidays. As of May 19, 2025, 60 accidents have already been registered. Five children have died, and 55 sustained injuries of varying severity and were hospitalized.
In 2024, a total of 196 similar incidents were recorded. Children aged 2 to 13 are at the highest risk, particularly when left unsupervised. The Ministry noted that a common cause of these tragedies is children leaning on mosquito screens, which are unable to support their weight.
Preventive measures strengthened nationwide
At the instruction of the Minister of Emergency Situations, preventive efforts have been intensified in all regions. Ministry staff are conducting inspections and holding meetings with parents in residential areas and children’s institutions to share safety guidelines.
Additionally, the Ministry is actively using information platforms to raise public awareness about these risks.
Recommendations for parents
The Ministry urged parents and legal guardians to strictly follow safety precautions to prevent tragedies:
- Never leave children unsupervised;
- Do not rely on mosquito screens — they are not designed to prevent falls;
- Install window locks and restrictors;
- Move furniture away from windows to prevent children from climbing onto the windowsill.
The Ministry emphasized that every such incident is a preventable tragedy, and adults bear full responsibility for ensuring children’s safety.
