Tengrinews.kz - More than 1,000 moped owners in Almaty have registered their vehicles as part of an ongoing campaign, with only 45 days remaining before new regulations come into effect, according to Polisia.kz.
All registered moped owners have received license plates and technical passports. They are now subject to the same legal responsibilities as other road users.
Aidyn Merkimbayev, head of the Processing center of the Administrative Police Division under the Almaty Police Department, clarified that amendments to the legislation will come into force on April 5, classifying mopeds as motor vehicles.
“From this date, mopeds can only be operated after registration with the police and with an appropriate driver’s license,” Merkimbayev emphasized.
He also warned that moped owners who fail to register their vehicles or drive without the A1 category license will face administrative penalties. This includes fines of 10 or 20 monthly calculation indices (MCI) and possible disqualification from driving for up to one year.
