30 settlements in Kazakhstan are under threat of flooding, says Emergency Ministry

Tengrinews.kz - Thirty settlements in Kazakhstan are under threat of flooding, said Serik Junisbekov, Chairman of the Emergency Prevention Committee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The settlements in question are located in the North Kazakhstan, Akmola, Karaganda, East Kazakhstan regions, and the Abai region.

“Following the same approach as last year, work is continuing to model possible threats during the flood period in the Tasqyn information systems based on forecast data from Kazhydromet and the Talsim-NG software of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. At present, these information systems have identified a possible threat to 30 settlements,” Junisbekov explained during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.

According to him, a substantial force and resource grouping has already been prepared to combat flooding. Its total strength amounts to more than 39,000 personnel, with 12,000 units of equipment, more than 4,000 water pumps, and 700 watercraft involved.

The chairman of the committee added that an emergency reserve of forces and resources from the Ministry of Emergency Situations remains on constant standby, consisting of 930 personnel, 113 units of various equipment, 99 water pumps, and 35 watercraft.

“If necessary, according to the established algorithm, it is planned to involve aircraft of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, units of the National Guard, the Ministry of Defense, the National Security Committee, as well as rail transport of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy,” Serik Junisbekov concluded.
