Tengrinews.kz - A woman was convicted in Astana for offering to reduce the sentence of Kuandyk Bishimbayev for 100 million tenge.

According to court reports, in May 2024, Lyudmila Gracheva visited the home of Bishimbayev's mother, claiming that she needed to transfer 100 million tenge. This money was allegedly intended for their subsequent transfer as a bribe to the appellate court to reduce the sentence of her son Kuandyk Bishimbayev.

In the evening of the same day, she came to Bishimbayev’s mother again and during the conversation continued to incite the latter to give a bribe under the pretext of transferring it to officials, although she herself did not intend to do this.

"The defendant's actions to steal money by deception were not completed due to circumstances beyond her control in connection with the exposure of her criminal actions by employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency," the court reported.

The defendant's guilt was proven by witness testimony, expert opinions, results of undercover investigative actions, video recording, and other materials of the criminal case. In court, the prosecutor supported the charge and asked to deprive her of liberty for 11 years. The defendant did not admit guilt, the defense asked to acquit her.

The court recognized the presence of minor children as a mitigating circumstance of criminal liability and punishment. No aggravating circumstances were established.

The jury found Gracheva guilty of attempted fraud and incitement to bribery and sentenced her to 10 years in prison for a combination of crimes.

She will serve her sentence in a medium-security penal institution. The sentence has not entered into legal force.

The woman who, according to the prosecution, offered to reduce the sentence Kuandyk Bishimbayev for 100 million tenge, made her final statement in court.
