Tengrinews.kz - Experts at WhatsApp are reportedly working on a significant new feature for the messaging app, which could be rolled out in upcoming updates.
According to niche publication Wabetainfo.com, WhatsApp is focusing on enhancing a function that will allow users to easily verify the authenticity of images they send and receive.
The new image search feature aims to help users quickly find information about received pictures. This will be particularly useful for identifying fake or misleading images that often circulate online. If a user receives a suspicious image, this feature will assist in tracing its source and locating the original.
Importantly, WhatsApp assures users that the messenger will not store or process the image or its caption. When users want to search for a specific image, it will be uploaded to Google for analysis.
"This added layer of privacy ensures that personal media shared in chats remains secure and does not compromise user confidentiality. Users may wish to utilize this feature to verify the authenticity of images shared in their conversations - be it from news articles, social media posts, or memes that could spread misinformation," the publication notes.
The image search feature will reportedly be available for all pictures, regardless of how they were shared or forwarded. It is emphasized that using the image search will be optional.
"Users will have complete control over whether they want to initiate a search, ensuring that no data will be transmitted without their explicit consent," the article states.
