Tengrinews.kz – WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature allowing users to translate messages.
According to the company’s official blog:
"If you see a message in a different language, simply press and hold it, then select 'Translate'. Choose the language you want to translate the message to or from, and download that language for future translations."
This feature is available in individual chats, groups, and channel updates.
The company emphasized that the translation process will maintain user privacy: all messages are processed directly on the device, with no access from WhatsApp.
Android users can enable automatic translation in chats, so that all new messages will be displayed in the chosen language.
"Starting September 23, we began gradually rolling out the message translation feature for both Android and iPhone users. Currently, only a few languages are available, but more will be added in the future," the company said.
At present, Android users can choose from six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. iPhone users have access to more than 19 languages right away.
