Tengrinews.kz – Meta is testing a new Threads feature called Dear Algo, a tool that lets users directly tell the algorithm what they want to see. The option is not available everywhere yet, but it could change how the feed is shaped and what people see on the platform.

Meta says Dear Algo is powered by artificial intelligence and gives users more control over recommendations. The idea is simple: instead of the algorithm guessing your interests based on likes and follows, you can explicitly ask it to show more or less of certain content.

For example, users can boost sports posts during live matches or reduce TV show discussions to avoid spoilers.

How to use Dear Algo

You don’t need to open Settings. To activate the feature, users can submit a request directly in a thread:

  • Create a public post on Threads;
  • Type Dear Algo;
  • Add what you want to see more or less of in your feed. For instance: “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.”

After you send the request, the feed will adjust over the next three days. Users can also repost someone else’s Dear Algo request and apply the same preferences to their own feed.

Why Meta is doing it

Meta says Dear Algo is meant to make the feed feel more personal — from major news to niche interests — and is part of a broader move toward giving users more direct control over algorithms that traditionally worked “behind the scenes”.

Dear Algo is currently available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, with Meta saying it plans to expand to more countries. Kazakhstan is not included yet.
