Tengrinews.kz - After the arrest of its founder Pavel Durov in Paris, the messaging platform Telegram has begun cooperating with law enforcement agencies not only in France but also in the United States, South Korea, Belgium, and other countries, providing information in response to their requests. This was reported by Le Figaro and Liberation.
According to Le Figaro, one EU country has already received a response to its inquiry regarding a Telegram group that discussed approximately 100 contract killings. A response is also anticipated from South Korea.
In France, Telegram has reportedly reacted to inquiries from the minors' affairs department (OFMIN) of the national police, as well as from the gendarmerie, providing information that could help identify some suspects, particularly in cases of crimes against children.
Earlier this spring, OFMIN alerted the cybercrime division of the National Jurisdiction for the Fight Against Organized Crime about the "rapid and uncontrolled" spread of crimes against minors on the platform.
Some investigators and judges believe that Telegram has become a "supermarket of crime," facilitating trafficking in weapons, drugs, humans, and contract killings.
Le Figaro notes that Telegram's willingness to normalize its relationship with the judicial system should facilitate numerous national and international investigations. In the coming months, other individuals may be involved in the case beyond Pavel Durov.
Durov was arrested at the Paris airport on the evening of August 24. He faces charges related to organized crime, including complicity in drug trafficking and child pornography, as well as failing to provide information requested by authorities. He was released on bail a few days later, with the requirement to report to police and not leave France.
