Tengrinews.kz - Instagram users have recently noticed a disturbing change in their archived stories. The platform appears to be replacing old videos with static screenshots, leading to frustration and anger among users who had relied on Instagram to store their memories.

Some users reported that their archived videos dating back to as early as 2017 and up until 2022 have now been replaced by only the first frame of the video. This means that instead of complete videos, users now only see still images in their archives.

The unexpected change sparked a wave of discontent. Many users expressed their disappointment, explaining that they had deleted the original videos from their phones, trusting Instagram to keep them safe.

“All my videos from 2017 and 2018 turned into just screenshots,” one user wrote. Another complained, “I can’t load videos from 2019 anymore, and I had so many memories there.” Another added, “I hate Instagram now. I stored so many memories there, and now there’s no point.”

The issue has not only affected users on mobile devices but also on PCs, and the problem persists even after reinstalling the app. Users have taken to platforms like Reddit to share their concerns, report the issue, and search for explanations.

“There’s no official statement from Instagram, and that’s what makes it even more frustrating,” commented one user.

Some were particularly concerned about privacy and their content being changed without prior consent.

Several users have suggested potential workarounds, such as sharing affected stories to a different account to restore video playback or shaking their phone to report the problem directly to Instagram’s support team.

Though Instagram’s support reportedly restores videos upon request, users are still left frustrated by the lack of clear communication and transparency about this unexpected change.
