Almaty is getting a new concert hall in less than a year. The design was presented last week, Tengrinews reports. The Head of the Almaty Urban Planning and Architecture Department Zhanat Aitleu said that the new 1000-seat venue would have a theater hall and two movie halls. “The concert hall is being built in Alatau district, which is to the west of Momishuly street and to the north of Ryskulov street. It will be surrounded by venues built for the Universiade-2017,” added Aitleu. Construction of the newest cultural venue started in 2012 and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014. “The Alatau district has not had this kind of building before. It is designed in the shape of a grand piano,” said the Head of Urban Planning Department. The concept of the new concert hall was designed with the idea that any concert venue of that sort requires a grand piano. In March 2012, the Head of the Almaty Department of Culture Kairat Kulbayev said that it was the first cultural venue built in Almaty in 20 years. The design of the cultural complex reflects the modern trends in urban planning and will be a great addition to the diverse architectural scenery of Almaty.
