An oceanarium will be constructed at the territory of 0.6 hectares on the east coast of Sairan lake in Almaty, KazTAG.kz reports citing Zhanat Aitleu, First Deputy Head of Architecture and City Planning Department of Almaty. The east bank of the lake is where it (oceanarium) will be constructed,” he told the journalists on Tuesday, July 10. “We have already set aside the land for it. The oceanarium will be built at the expenses of private investors,” Zhanat Aitleu said. According to the official, the oceanarium will occupy the territory of 0.6 hectares. “Of course, we wanted more place but we had to consider our capacities,” the representative of Architecture and City Planning Department explained. “The construction will possibly start as soon as next year,” he added. And according to Aitleu, the construction of the new facility may take a year or a year and a half. In the begging of February Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Akim (Mayor) of Almaty city, said that they were going to construct an oceanarium in the city. “We are also going to construct an oceanarium this year, or maybe next year. You know that the oceanarium is not just a beautiful site, it can be used for treatment of children with certain diseases. That is why we are interested in this project at Sairan lake,” Esimov said at a meeting with Almaty citizens.
