Almaty administration has reported that normal load on the city's main roads is being exceeded 10-fold or even more, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to the local authorities, the most loaded streets are Abai, Raiymbek, Ryskulov, Sain and Al-Farabi. The authorities have worked out a plan to limit access of transport from other cities to Almaty. "Nobody had expected that 180 thousand cars a day will drive down Al-Farabi street," deputy head of the Almaty Road Department Gani Myrzakhanov said. Such load, according to the officials, makes it difficult to repair the roads. Repairs are expected to cover 97 city streets with the total length of 57.7km, including 8 main streets this year. Capital repairs are planned at Raiymbek street at the section from Sain street to the city borders. 55.1 billion tenge ($367 million) were allocated from the budget for development of transport infrastructure in 2012. This money was spent on repairing city streets and roads. The works covered 80 percent of all the roads in the city. Besides, 16 bus-stop road bays were built or reconstructed, 2.9 kilometers of sidewalks along 13 streets were repaired. Medium repairs were performed on 392 city streets that made 224km in total. Besides, new roads were built in Novostroika, Karassu and Bakai regions of Almaty city.
