Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan government denied information about Ministry of Energy's request to postpone the planned maintenance scheduled for October due to a gas shortage.

Earlier, media reported, that the Kazakh ministry sent the request in a letter to the partners of the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), which operates Kashagan.

A decision on the matter is expected on September 10, they added. The Kashagan field, which produces 400,000 barrels per day, was initially planned to shut down in October for 28 days of maintenance.

However, this information was denied, with officials stating that oil production cuts are planned in October to offset processing accumulated since the beginning of the year.

“In October, a significant reduction in oil production is planned during the planned repair period. During this period, we plan to compensate for the significant volume of overproduction accumulated since the beginning of the year,” this was noted during the recent visit of OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Gais.

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan stated that it had considered the possibility of postponing the maintenance, but no decision had been made.

"Kazakhstan remains committed to the OPEC+ Agreement and is taking measures to fully comply with its obligations and meet the Compensation plan submitted to the OPEC Secretariat," the ministry said.

The offshore Kashagan field, one of the largest discoveries in recent decades, is being developed by Eni, Shell, TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, KazMunayGas, Inpex, and CNPC.
