A 15 MW wind power plant will be constructed in Karaganda oblast in central Kazakhstan, KazTAG reports citing deputy director of Astana branch of Kazakh Scientific-Research and Design Institute of Construction and Architecture Kazbek Matayev.

“There is sufficient wind in Karaganda oblast. In this relation, construction of a wind power station with a capacity of 15 MW is planned in 2016,” Matayev said at the presentation of the general layout of Kazakhstan territory in Karaganda.

According to Matayev, the general layout provides for active use of renewable energy sources in forming of the common energy system of Kazakhstan with a possibility of linking with energy networks of the neighboring countries.

There is an energy deficit in Karaganda Oblast that is growing proportionally to the region's economy, the authors of the document said.

“The deficit is covered by cross flows from power plants of Kazakhstan’s common energy network along North-South 220/500 kW transit lines. As for new generating capacities for Karaganda Oblast in 2015-2030, it is necessary to construct 360 MW Karaganda Heat Power Plant No.4, and 220 MW Zhezkazgan Heat Power Plant No.2 in 2021-2025,” he added.
