Where reminders will appear

According to WABetaInfo, the messenger will introduce a special section where all upcoming celebrations will be displayed in one place.

WhatsApp will not ask users to manually enter dates. The new feature will use birthday data already saved in the smartphone’s address book. When the date arrives, WhatsApp will send the corresponding notification. If a person’s birthday is not listed in the phone’s contacts, no reminder will appear in the app.

Can notifications be turned off

There will be no separate setting to disable the reminders.

Since WhatsApp uses data from the smartphone’s contacts, it will be enough to remove a specific person’s birthday from the address book. After that, notifications about that person’s birthday will no longer be sent.

When the feature will become available

The new feature is still under development. It has not yet appeared even for beta testing program participants.

The feature is expected to become available gradually with one of the future WhatsApp updates.
