Tengrinews.kz – Harvard scientists have discovered a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and were able to restore already lost memories in some patients, according to the scientific journal Nature.
According to the researchers, the sharp deterioration of memory is linked to a low level of lithium in the brain. Restoring the balance of this trace element may help recover memory and prevent the progression of the disease.
The scientists believe this is a real breakthrough in medicine, as more than 55 million people worldwide suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
Clinical trials and the possible start of drug production lie ahead.
So far, experiments have been conducted on mice, but researchers are already beginning studies on humans in order to launch mass production of the drug.
