New medical facilties to be built in Almaty in 2012

Several new medical facilities will be built in Almaty in 2012, Tengrinews.kz report citing Almaty Akim Akhmetzhan Yessimov as saying at the meeting with the citizens where he reported on results of the year 2011. He said that almost 40 billion tenge ($270 million) were allocated for healthcare this year. “Construction of 8 facilities is planned in 2012: 3 hospitals, 2 ambulatories, 2 extensions to hospitals, as well as an additional building of a diagnostics department,” Akim said. Yessimov added that equipment totally worth 2.1 billion tenge ($14.2 million) will be bought for medical facilities. Akim emphasized the necessity of training high-class experts abroad: “It’s not a secret that some graduates and young professionals do not comply with modern requirements by their knowledge level. That’s why, I think it is time to switch from quantity to quality. We have created a good material base: 11 hospitals were built for over 35 billion tenge ($236.5 million) in the last 3 years. There had been no such construction pace and financing in the history of our city and other regions as well,” Akim noted.
