Doctor names the most dangerous alcoholic drink for teeth

“Red wine causes the greatest harm to teeth. The acids it contains etch the enamel, while dark pigments leave persistent stains on it. Due to the effect of alcohol on cell membranes, changes occur in the oral mucosa, up to tissue fibrosis,” the doctor warned.

According to the specialist, any sweet alcoholic drink also damages teeth. The sugar they contain turns into acids, which make the surface of the enamel rough. This creates favorable conditions for bacteria to attach to the teeth, form biofilm and, as a result, develop dental plaque — a breeding ground for cariogenic microorganisms.

The doctor added that sweet alcoholic cocktails with ice are also dangerous, as a sharp temperature change can damage the enamel. He also noted that the habit of chewing ice cubes can be harmful as well, as it can lead to chipped teeth.

In addition, the periodontist noted that alcohol has a diuretic effect and leads to dehydration, which is also harmful to teeth. The doctor explained that a lack of fluid in the body can cause dry mouth and plaque buildup on the teeth.
