Tengrinews.kz – Nestlé has announced a recall of a limited number of infant nutrition product batches in Kazakhstan. The recall concerns powdered instant milk and fermented milk formulas, as well as a powdered amino acid–based medical nutrition formula, the company said.

According to Nestlé, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure and is part of a global product recall. The reason is a potential risk of the presence of the toxin cereulide in one of the ingredients – arachidonic acid supplied by an external supplier.

Background: Cereulide is a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. It is dangerous because it is not destroyed by boiling or reheating food. It most commonly forms in products stored at room temperature for long periods. Ingestion of cereulide can cause acute food poisoning, with symptoms including nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

“Despite the minimal content of this ingredient and the absence of regulated limits for cereulide toxin levels in food products in Kazakhstan, as part of Nestlé’s global decision to reduce potential risks, Nestlé Food Kazakhstan LLP began voluntary recall measures for a limited number of infant food batches on January 5, 2026,” the company said in a statement.

Nestlé noted that the regulator has been informed of the situation and that all necessary information on the measures being taken will be provided to regulators, consumers and business partners.
