Almaty entered Top Ten of smoking-free cities

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially included Almaty into the Top Ten cities fighting against smoking, along with Mecca, Medina and Liverpool, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Jamilya Sadykova, head of Smoking-Free Kazakhstannational coalition. Almaty has got a high international praise and joined the smoking-free Top Ten as a result of Almaty, Smoking-Free city program implementation. “Leaders from other cities could learn a lot from Almaty's example. The city has the most sustainable and long-term anti-smoking program around the whole post-Soviet territory,” WHO press-release reads. Implementation of the program was smoking among teenagers reduce from 19% in 2004 to 15% in 2008.
