From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer receive updates on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. These models are unable to support iOS 15.1, which is required for the app to function, and are limited to iOS 12.5.7.
Android users need not worry, as the change will only affect older iPhone models. Owners of other devices will continue to use WhatsApp without restrictions.
WhatsApp appears to have chosen the right time to part ways with outdated iPhones, after assessing the dwindling number of users on these models.
If you're planning to upgrade your smartphone to continue using the app, experts recommend saving your chats and multimedia to iCloud ahead of time. This will simplify transferring your data to a new iPhone, thanks to WhatsApp's chat transfer feature.
All new iPhone models will continue to support WhatsApp as long as they have the latest version of iOS installed. Just update your system, and you'll stay connected without any issues.
Previously, WhatsApp introduced a free feature for transcribing voice messages, according to the messaging app's developer blog.
