Tengrinews.kz - Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement in a class action lawsuit over allegations that its Siri voice assistant secretly recorded users without their consent, citing the New York Post.
Any owner of a Siri-enabled device may be eligible to file a claim as part of the class action, which stems from the case Lopez v. Apple.
The lawsuit accuses the tech giant of allowing Siri to record users' private conversations—even when they had not deliberately activated the assistant by saying “Hey Siri.”
Filed in 2021 by Fumiko Lopez and other consumers in a California federal court, the complaint alleges that Apple shared some of these recordings with third parties such as restaurants and brands, leading to targeted advertisements in Apple Search and Safari.
According to the legal notice, consumers who “owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device and experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private conversation” between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, may now be eligible for compensation.
The payout amount depends on the number of claims submitted. The settlement site indicates a cap of $20 per Siri-enabled device, with a maximum of five devices per person—totaling up to $100.
Some users may have received an email or postcard containing a claim ID and confirmation code. This information can be used to file a claim on the official settlement website.
