Kazakh football players accept Ice Bucket Challenge

Ice Bucket Challenge continues with the captain of the Almaty Football Club Kairat Samat Smakov, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Almat Bekbayev, goalkeeper of Aktobe FC was the first to start the Ice Bucket Challenge among Kazakh football players. His first two challenge buddies were Samat Smakov and Andrei Karpovich.

Taking Bekbayev’s challenge Smakov challenged his teammate from Kairat a goalkeeper David Loria, a midfielder Oleg Nedashkosky and Marat Khairullin, a midfielder from Aktobe FC.

Atyrau FC player Andrei Karpovich, too, participated in the challenge. He, then, challenged a Taraz FC forward Murat Tleshov and Tugan Khamkhoev, former Alma-Ata football player.

Kazakhstani politicians, too, decided to take part in the awareness raising challenge.

The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about ASL disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and may lead to paralysis and death. Nearly two deaths per hundred thousand population annually occurs due to ALS disease, ALS Association reports. The campaign raised over $ 53.3 million so far.
