Storm caused damage in Suzak region estimated at $5.3 million

The damage from the storm in Suzak region of South-Kazakhstan oblast made 800 million tenge ($5.3 million), Tengrinews.kz reports. Around 2,000 buildings were damaged by the strong wind with the speed of up to 30 meters per second. The whole Suzak region was cut off from power supply. 10 houses in Taukent village are considered unfit for living. According to first deputy Akim (Governor) of the oblast Berik Ospanov, 12 companies are already starting the restoration works. Power supply will be restored in the nearest three days. The storm hit Suzak region at night of January 13, 2013. The wind ripped off roofs from many buildings in the 6 villages in the are. 20 educational facilities are among those that are no roofless. The wind also damaged roofs of hospitals and police stations. The special commission on elimination of the consequences of the emergency situation is working in the region.
