Tengrinews.kz - Britain and Ukraine have signed a 100-year partnership agreement, focusing on defense cooperation and potential military aid to Kyiv. The deal comes amid concerns that the U.S. might scale back its support for Ukraine, citing Euronews.

During his visit to Kyiv on Thursday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a defense partnership agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The "100-year partnership” treaty includes security assurances, particularly for future protection against Russia.

"In 2025, the UK will provide Ukraine with more military support than ever before. We have already allocated £3 billion in military aid this year, and we will continue supporting the frontline with £2.2 billion, which will be covered not by Ukraine but from the interest on frozen Russian assets," Starmer stated.

The two leaders are also considering additional military assistance to Ukraine, especially as concerns grow over a potential shift in U.S. policy under President-elect Donald Trump.

Starmer and Zelensky will discuss the security guarantees Britain can offer Ukraine, while the agreement also covers cooperation in science, trade, and the economy.

Additionally, Zelensky mentioned that he and Starmer would explore the possibility of deploying Western troops to Ukraine to monitor a potential ceasefire agreement.

The Telegraph, citing senior UK government sources, reported that Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are considering sending British and French troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission following a possible ceasefire deal.

Previously, Serbia expressed readiness to host a meeting between U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
