Tengrinews.kz – The volume of water in the northern part of the Aral Sea has increased. This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

It is noted that Kyzylorda agrarians have implemented water-saving technologies, conserving 200 million cubic meters of water directed to the Aral Sea. This year, the technologies were applied to 55,000 hectares of rice fields, allowing approximately one cubic meter of water to be sent to the sea during the 2024 irrigation season—three times more than last year.

"Since the beginning of the year, about two billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the North Aral Sea. As of today, the total volume of water in the sea has reached 22 billion cubic meters," the statement said.

As noted by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, in addition to water diplomacy and close collaboration with colleagues from Central Asian countries, the implementation of water-saving technologies plays an important role in filling the Aral Sea. Their use allows for the conservation of hundreds of millions of cubic meters of water, which can then be directed to the sea.

"To this end, we have increased the subsidy for agrarians' costs for implementing water-saving technologies from 50 to 80 percent. Over the next three years, the subsidy for peasant farms using irrigation water with water-saving technologies will rise from 50 to 85 percent," said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.

Earlier, two consecutive earthquakes were recorded in the Caspian Sea.
