Tengrinews.kz – A video of a snow leopard filmed in the Katon-Karagay National Park in East Kazakhstan region has appeared online.

The video was posted on the official Instagram account of the Forestry and Wildlife Committee. It is reported that the results of camera traps, installed to monitor rare animals listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book and their habitats, were checked in the park.

"In the Altai forestry of the Altai branch, a camera trap recorded a unique event: a snow leopard (Panthera uncia), an endangered species listed among the rarest. This is important evidence of the effectiveness of nature conservation measures," the committee stated.

The park's website notes that its territory includes the southern macro slopes of the Listvyaga and Katun ridges (southern and eastern slopes of the Belukha mountain knot), the western part of the Ukok highland plateau in Kazakhstan, and the Southern Altai, Tarbagatai (Altai), and Sarymsakty ridges. The park covers about 643,000 hectares.

Earlier, a rare leopard was spotted in Kazakhstan. From October 29 to December 21, 2024, camera traps four times recorded a Persian leopard in the Ustyurt State Nature Reserve.
