The video was published by the “Merke” park on its Instagram account. The footage shows a snow leopard leisurely climbing up a mountain slope.
“During amateur filming, a rare snow leopard entered the frame,” the caption to the video says.

According to the park, the video was recorded on November 6. The footage was taken by a local resident of the Merke district, who had permission to graze livestock under a forest permit. Specialists emphasized that being near the predator, even at a short distance, is extremely dangerous.
How many snow leopards live in Kazakhstan
Seeing a snow leopard in Kazakhstan is a great stroke of luck and a rare event. According to the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife, about 152 to 189 individuals of this endangered predator live in the country.
According to recent data, 12 snow leopards have been recorded in the protected area of the Zhambyl region. It is also noted that the Merke park territory is home to about 120 argali, 20 Indian porcupines, and 22 lynxes.
